Pinbusters – Banana Soft Serve “Ice Cream”

Have you ever wondered if the stuff people post on Pinterest is true? Well I have, and I test them all so that you don’t have to, ’cause ain’t nobody got time for that.  Click here to check out all of the pins I haven taken on. You might be surprised by some of the results!

I love culinary pinbusting!  The original pin (click for link) says you can freeze bananas (‘nanners in this house) and blend them into a quasi ice cream with the consistency of soft serve. Seems like a pretty bold claim, right?

Step One:  Freeze your nanners. Helpful hint:  Peel them first, or you will freeze your paws off trying to open them.

Step Two:  Put in blender. Blend.

We were tempted at this point to add some liquid (almond milk?) since it was very thick. Having faith in our Ninja, though, we forged on, and soon had this:

Consistency? Check!

Flavor? Banana Soft Serve

Whaaaaaaatttttttt ….. oh yeah. That is pretty darn tasty. Pin confirmed.

But why stop there? How could we make it MORE delicious?

Banana Soft Serve Nutella

Obviously. Two heaping scoops of Nutella, a splash of almond milk, and voila!

This was a seriously delightful treat. The bananas alone are delicious, and I will give them credit for that. However, the addition of the Nutella took this treat to a whole new realm. Less healthy? Sure. Live a little.

I’m making another batch right now.

Pinbusters – Soap Clouds a/k/a Nuking Bar Soap

Have you ever wondered if the stuff people post on Pinterest is true? Well I have, and I test them all so that you don’t have to, ’cause ain’t nobody got time for that.  Click here to check out all of the pins I haven taken on. You might be surprised by some of the results!

This pin (click here for source) looked easy like Sunday morning.  Procure some Ivory bar soap, place it on wax or parchment paper in the microwave, and get to nuking.

Step One: Clean the microwave to avoid the judgmental eyes of the interwebs. Soap Cloud

Step Two: Procure Ivory soap.*

Step Three: Place Ivory soap on wax paper in the freshly cleaned microwave.

Step Four: Microwave on high for a few minutes, while taking pictures of your excited child.

Obviously, this works. The fluff does start to deflate almost immediately once you pull it out, but it was fun to play with. We put what was left of the bar back into the microwave and it fluffed up – so you can make a LOT of clouds with one bar.

This got us thinking – the instructions were very specific about the brand of soap. Would it work with a different kind?

Answer: NO. I have no explanation for this, but this soap melted instead of expanding. The good news, though, for responsible “reduce, reuse, recycle” patrons of the Earth such as ourselves – the fluffed version of the soap still lathered and worked the same!

If you find a different brand of soap that also works, let us know in the comments!

Life

It tends to get in the way of DIY projects, blogging, honeymooning, reading for pleasure, catching up on episodes of The League, pin busting, and generally everything on my To Do list that doesn’t involve sustaining life or staying employed. I could whine about planning a wedding in basically a month, traveling for the holidays, trying to find our next house, and being overworked, but I won’t. I realize that plenty of people haven’t found “the one,” don’t have family or can’t visit them regularly, can’t afford to buy a home, and would sell an organ to find a good paying job. My excuses for not updating the blog make me realize how incredibly lucky we are.

By way of an action-packed but abbreviated update, we:

Got married.

WED

Finished the closet.

Master Closet

Made serious progress in the bathroom.

Master Bath

Saved a baby owl from the pool cage. With oven mitts, of course.

Owl Owl

Got very excited about planting bushes.

Outside

Located the garage floor. And it is RED. Huh. I didn’t remember that.

Garage

We have been under contract on our “next house” for months, getting financing, bids, inspections, lining up contractors, etc. The closing has been moved twice, and we are now unofficially scheduled to close in April. The silver lining is that we get to enjoy living in a finished house for a few months. Well, almost finished. It is amazing what moving a closing will do to one’s motivation. (I have rediscovered napping, and boy did I miss it!)
